Arcata, CA

Posted on June 25th, 2008 in California, North America, United States by robjkentjr
After a week with my sister, we spent the remainder of our time with my mom.  We always like to be with her in Arcata during summer.
It was a full moon our first night there.  This was our view of Trinidad Head as we arrived.
Here is the sunset from the back of my mom’s house.
It was also my mom’s birthday so Rasa decided to cook up some Syrian dishes for the surprise party.
Earlier that day, mom was out gathering flowers from her garden.
One of the best things about living on the boundary of a National Park is all the wildlife that comingles with you.  The quails are adorable when they have babies chasing them around.
Summer is also the season for Golden Finches.
Most impressive, is the herds of elk that can meander on through your yard.  They love the lettuce in the garden though.
Now it is just a quick hop over to New York for the rest of our time in the States.  For the next six weeks, I will be eating nothing but pizza and bagels.

Klamath Falls, Oregon

Posted on June 15th, 2008 in North America, Oregon, United States by robjkentjr
The first week in California, we spent visiting friends in LA and San Francisco (thanks to all!).  Then we drove with my parents to Oregon for my sister’s graduation.
I can already hear my mom when she sees this picture.  She should have just let me sit in the front seat.  :-)
Congratulations Sandrine!  My sister graduated as a Dental Hygienist and found out she is pregnant.  Looks like I am going to become Uncle Bobby.
I also bought my last lens to round out my setup.  It is a 50mm, which is great for portraits.
These two shots were just while walking around and clicking.  I cannot wait until I get to Africa with this lens.
The moment we have all been waiting for.
In between all the activities, we made a quick trip down to Lava Beds National Monument.
With Sandrine’s new responsibility on the way, it was time for a move.  We spent a week packing her up and condensing her life down to a carload.
Next on our Round-the-World journey is the rugged North California Coast.  It is always nice to go home and see mom.
