Vermont Autumn

After DC, we picked up the new volunteer and drove to Carolyn’s house in Vermont. There we were reminded what a family PWW is.

Carolyn took us to the local market and besides looking at pumpkins and gourds, Rasa tried on some garlands.

The hills were on fire with the fall leaves during this sunset after the storm. This picture doesn’t do it justice though.

Carolyn put Dan, Rasa and I to work in the kitchen. There were two meals to prepare for some 20 people. At least there was lots of beer and wine.

Bill the master chef preparing his pork. Rasa and I are still eating leftovers from this weekend.

Pumpkin carving was the highlight of my night. I made the big one with the carrot nose.

On Saturday nigh,t we had a small dinner with the Manganellos, who brought lots of wine for a taste comparison. On Sunday, we had brunch with about 15 people to wish us farewell and greet Dan. Thank you to everyone that made the trip. It was very special to know so many people care for this project.

Walking around town there were so many red, orange, and yellow leaves to see. I liked this one of the old house.

This was a typical hill; absolutely beautiful.

District of Columbia

Posted on October 23rd, 2007 in DC,Middle East,North America,Syria,United States by robjkentjr

This week I finally saw DC! And caught up with our Peace Corps batch mate Shareema. We also got our Syrian visa while we were there.

The weather was beautiful this week. Here is the view as we come up from the Dupont Circle subway stop.

What would a trip be to DC without a visit to the mall? The Smithsonian is amazing and we could have spent the rest of the year just visiting all 90 museums they have.

We saw this piece for $550 in the National Museum of the American Indian. If anyone is planning a trip to Nicaragua, pick up some pottery. We bought a similar piece to the one above for $45. A investment I think.

We were also lucky enough to hear the Dali Lama and Nancy Pelosi speak on the hill after his medal ceremony. He even blessed us!

The chambers of the Supreme Court.

Rasa nearly had a heart attack in the Library of Congress. I was lucky to get her out of there before she tried to read all 30,011,749 books..

We though of our accountant and friend, Sam, and realized the IRS is doing pretty for its self.

Our Syrian visas were the final step in our trip preparations. After $200 for our 6-month, multi-entry stamps we are dedicated to going now.
