    1) What’s the substance/mineral or whatever on the rockface over the springs that “purifies” the water?; &, 2) What’s the significance of the bucket, besides just being a handy vessel to dip water with & drink from??

I am just amazed at all the places you have gone! You should write a book about each place you go to. Be safe, and have a Merry Christmas!!

The best way to avoid being ripped off by tourist pricing for food and internet, e.g., in tourist-impacted cities like Samarkand is to go 1 km or more in a non-tourist direction. We did that when we were in Samarkand and found a bank that had not seen a tourist in a very long time. It had to open a special window just so we could convert $100 US into Uzbek sum. The manager was so interested in talking to a tourist about Uzbek banking problems that we got his personal attention for a whole 25 minutes.

fermented mares milk? YUK!! It looked to me that the lady in the second picture had a beer! Is there a difference between fermented and sour?

I drank ‘chol’ (fermented camel milk) in Turkmenistan. Now you will have to tell us if there is a difference between 1- and 2-hump milks.

R’n'R: Happy trails! Tell us if you spot any white camels.

Ha!  Lots of two humped camels and milk of all kinds but we did not see a white camel.  Shame, it would have definitely won the camel beauty pageant.

Yea, I know.  We thought their life would make a great story and then realized we could probably use the same storyline for our lives as well.
