Thru the hills we go

Cameroon is too densely settled with people to find a campsite that is not in someone’s backyard or farm plot.  Which is why this has become our primary mission for the next three-days of driving.
was out and there were for as far as we could see but not a single bus for that long walk back to the farms.
After our last unsatisfying shower experience, we wanted something a bit less mucky so when we passed this rice patty stream, we jumped at the chance to fill our bags.
This is the beginning of the high plateau that immediately goes up to an elevation of about 2,000m (6,500ft).  We were a little worried about finding a flat place to camp that .
Every bit of open space here is used for crops but unfortunately the farmers do not use terracing, which has been incorporated into other mountainous regions to raise productivity.
One of the main crops here is maize (corn).  It is then ground up to make more pasty, goopy stuff like achu.  Yum!
We just kept going higher and higher with still no place to camp.
Then at the summit we at last found a flat spot with a beautifully clear view of the valley below.
We were quite excited with our new mountaintop campsite.  It was almost too good to be true.

    Rob and Rasa,
Last time I camped on a mountain top (50 years ago), a tropical storm came up in the night, flooded our tube tent and then leveled it. Thankfully the tropics are warm.
