The Fon

After a morning of stepping on fresh slime balls (click to see last week’s ‘slim ball’), we set off to visit the Bafut Kingdom.  We were hoping to meet the Fon and have him bestow some wisdom on us but instead the Queen seduced us into a lunch of achu.
This is the Kingdom of Bafut, an English speaking enclave in that was once colonized by the Germans and then the British.
The Germans have poured a lot of aid into building up the queen’s houses and .  Last we heard, the 80 something year old Fon had over 100 wives.
This is a typical yard of drying maize and black beans with laundry hanging in the back.  Given relative living conditions, this is fit for a queen.
Queen Constance explaining the use of the sacrificial rock.  The Bafut were still into human sacrifices not to long ago.
The Prince of Bafut.
It was time to weed the roof.
This is where the Fon conducts his conversations with the Gods.  We were hoping to say hi but the Fon was unavailable to translate.
Sensing that and I were keen about local , Queen Constance invited us for a lunch of achu.  It took our insides three days to expel the memory afterwards but that is for next week’s blog.
