Today is my second day in Geneve, Switzerland. I made last minute arrangements with Aime and Alice. We left immediately after class to catch the train and arrive in Geneva almost too quickly. It seemed that we were just getting settled into the train and then we had already arrived. We passed through an immigration stand that had no stamps, I was outraged!
We wandered around first trying to find a hotel and ended up asking in a really fancy place where a youth hostel is and they referred us to a really great place. We dropped off our stuff and then head out to explore. We walked along the lake which looks more like a Mediterranean Village than how I pictured Switzerland. We wandered into the old city and Aime discovered this long stairwell covered with polkadots that led us to the top of the city and an old church. All around the church they were setting up chairs because this weekend is the city wide Fete de la Musique and every few feet you will find different musicians. It has been amazing. We first visited on that was an operetta, which was a very cute story, we left that a bit early and just wandered along and continued to find new things. We stopped for a while at one group who were all drummers. It was just along the Lake with really pretty views and everyone in the crowd was dancing along.
Today was another gorgeous day and took advantage of one of the great activities that the city of Geneva provides; FREE BIKES!! So for a deposit of 50 Euro or Swiss Francs you get a bike for the entire day, once you return the bike you get your money back. It was fantastic! We rode along the lake where the city has also planted TONS of rosebushes and continued on through their huge botanical garden park. We stopped for a little picnic in the shade among the roses. It has just been wonderful. At 5 tonight we will take a walking tour of the city and tomorrow we will rent a paddle boat around the lake. We are looking forward to enjoying more of the fete de la musique tonight! All in all, this has been such a wonderful trip. Even better, Geneva is a great family friendly place and is commuter distance from my “house” in Annecy. Geneva also is home to the UN so it all works out in our future plans
Countdown to the Philippines: 8 days
OK, so now I have to go visit you there, the next time you go. It sounds wonderful.
